UNDP Praises Development of Cambodia


The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has spoken highly of Cambodia’s development so far, by promising to assist the country to explore other development tips so as to attract more investors to come to invest in the Kingdom.

The appreciation was made by Ms. Alissar Chaker, Resident Representative of UNDP in Cambodia, while paying a courtesy call on H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council of the Development of Cambodia (CDC), at the CDC’s headquarters in Phnom Penh on Feb. 6.

On the occasion, H.E. Sun Chanthol thanked UNDP for supporting Cambodia so far, especially in the promotion of the use of electric vehicles (EVs) by providing EV charging stations, which contributes to encouraging Cambodian people to turn to use EVs.

H.E. DPM also considered the above-mentioned support as being in line with the determination of the Royal Government of Cambodia to expand the consumption of clean energy to some 70 percent of the total energy by 2030, and in conformity wi
th the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Cambodia, Belgium Hold First Session of Bilateral Political Consultations


The First Session of the Bilateral Political Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Federal Public Service of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Kingdom of Belgium, was conducted here at the MFAIC on Feb. 7.

The meeting was co-chaired on the Cambodian side by H.E. Dr. CHEM Widhya, Secretary of State at the MFAIC, and on the Belgian side, by Ambassador François DELHAYE, Director Asia and Oceania, according to a press release of the MFAIC issued this morning.

During the discussions, the source pointed out, both sides briefed on the political and economic development of their respective countries and expressed their desire to further strengthen and expand bilateral cooperation, especially in trade and investment. They also exchanged views on a number of regional and global issues of common concern.

Both Senior Officials agreed that the Bilateral Consultations mechanism is essential to promote
closer interactions between the two Ministries, said the press release, adding that they looked forward to the holding of the Second Session of the Bilateral Political Consultations in Brussels at the earliest convenience.

The Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation this afternoon issued a press release highlighting the outcomes of the day-long visit to Thailand on Feb. 7 by Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and the First Lady.

Campaign for 5th Senate Election to Kick off This Weekend


The two-week-long campaign for the 5th Senate Election will begin on Feb. 10 across the country and will last until Feb. 23.

This morning, at its headquarters, the National Election Committee (NEC) led by its member H.E. Yich Samithy organised a dissemination meeting with stakeholders on the upcoming election campaign.

The meeting laid stress on the process for parade, compliance with the election law, regulations and procedures as well as instructions on election campaign, security and order during the campaign, and so on.

A total of 11,747 electors will join the Senate election for the fifth legislative term slated for Feb. 25, 2024. The eligible electors include 125 members (17 female) of the National Assembly and 11,622 commune/Sangkat councillors (2,568 female).

Four political parties will run for the Senate election, including the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), Khmer Will Party, FUNCINPEC Party, and National Power Party.

Strategic Plan for Employment Development, Social Security and Vocational Training 2024-2028 Launched


The Strategic Plan for the Employment Development, Social Security and Vocational Training 2024-2028 were launched in Phnom Penh this afternoon.

The launching ceremony was held along with the closing ceremony of the annual meeting of the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, under the presidency of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet.

According to H.E. Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, the six-chapter Strategic Plan for the Employment Development, Social Security and Vocational Training 2024-2028 is a compass indicating the key strategies, priority programmes, clusters of activities and work activities that the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, as well as its line units, and all relevant actors to implement and achieve in the next five years.

This document was developed in response to the Pentagonal Strategy-Phase 1, the National Strategic Development Plan 2024-2028, the Cambodian Sustainable Development Goals (CSDC) Framework 2016-2030, and beyond.

This strategic plan aims to contribute to the creation, maintenance and increase of both quantitative and qualitative jobs for the Cambodian people; develop human capital with knowledge, skills, work attitudes, professional ethics, productivity and high competitiveness; promote a better working environment for workers and employees, both formal and informal, and for employers; ensure the safety and dignity of migrant workers; and expand the coverage of the social security system through five technical strategies and one general support strategy (5 + 1), including (1) Develop and implement active labour market policy, (2) Transform the technical and vocational education and training system in response to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, digital economy and society and green economy, (3) Develop working conditions, safety and health, and harmonisation of industrial relations in line with the global evolution, (4) Strengthen the management of labour migration with safety, quality and efficiency, (5) Develop the
social security system in line with the evolution of socio-economic situation, and (6) Modernise institutions and public service and general support service provision through digital technology.
