KRT PROGRESSING INTO BUSINESS TO BOOST COMMUNITY ECONOMIES


KUALA LUMPUR, Efforts are being made to mobilise the Neighbourhood Watch Areas (KRT) into projects that can boost the economies of the community.

National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, in a Facebook post, announced that the economic projects undertaken by KRT have led to successes such as the Food Sales project, Mee Kuning Basah project, Kampung Saga chicken farming project, shop lot rental services project and pineapple plantation project.

‘This empowerment makes KRT the main driver and connector that can enhance the economy of the KRT itself,’ he said.

Through an infographic shared in the post, he highlighted the success of the Food Sales Project by KRT Lorong Haji Da in Kuala Terengganu since 2022, generating a profit of RM70,000 annually.

Additionally, the Mee Kuning Basah Project by KRT Taman Wawasan Victoria in Tawau, Sabah, has been estimated to generate over RM40,000 in profits annually since 2018.

Meanwhile, the Kampung Saga chicken farming project in Melaka has achieved a profit of RM
14,000 annually, RM12,000 from the shop lot rental services project in Perak, and RM10,000 from the pineapple plantation project in Hulu Terengganu.

Cambodia Emphasises Commitment to Gender Equality for Socio-Economic Advancement

Cambodia is committed to promoting gender equality, empowering women, and recognising their vital role in socio-economic development.

The Kingdom’s steadfast commitment was underlined by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea in a meeting here on June 26 with visiting H.E. Ms. Jacqueline Jean O’Neil, Ambassador for Women, Peace, and Security of Global Affairs Canada, according to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Both sides highlighted Cambodia’s enriching history of women’s engagement in society, underscoring the country’s ongoing efforts to build on this legacy.

The discussion also encompassed Cambodia’s active participation in UN peacekeeping operations and the active role in assisting in humanitarian activities under the UN framework.

TERENGGANU RECORDS INFLOW OF 1.5 MLN TOURISTS IN Q1 2024


KUALA TERENGGANU, Terengganu recorded an influx of 1.5 million tourists in the first quarter of this year.

State Tourism, Culture, Environment and Climate Change Committee chairman, Datuk Razali Idris said the number involved domestic and foreign tourists to various locations including resort islands in the state.

He said the number shows a good growth and is expected to reach the target of 4.5 million tourists to Terengganu this year.

“For the first quarter of this year, I see (inflow of tourists) is a bit faster. So far 1.5 million tourists had stayed overnight and on day trips.

“For the second quarter of this year, I don’t have figures yet, but if you can see that the hotel occupancy rate of over 80 per cent while chalets and resorts on the six resort islands are also full,” he said after officiating the Terengganu International Bike Week 2024 (TIBW) at Dataran Shah Bandar. here today.

On today’s programme, Razali said TIBW, which lasts for five days starting today, is expected to attract 15,000 tour
ists to Terengganu.

According to him, as many as 3,000 owners of high-powered motorcycles from 106 clubs in Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia gathered in this state to explore the beauty of nature and get to know the culture of the local community.

He said that TIBW, which is an annual event, is also interspersed with various programmes including the exhibition of high-powered motorcycles, classics and attractive scooters.

“Last year we managed to attract 10,000 tourists in conjunction with TIBW. This year, we set a slightly higher target based on the participation of more clubs,” he said.

Legal Charges Against Notorious Murderer Srey Sina Expanded

The conviction of murderer Srey Sina, whose case went viral across Cambodia, has been expanded, and the minister of justice pledges to include the vicious killer in the list of criminals that will never be pardoned.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice H.E. Koeut Rith shared the update in a press conference on June 26 at the ministry office.

Murderer Srey Sina aggressively intervened in a minor dispute between two neighbours and ended up killing a couple and injuring and intimidating some others at the site.

According to H.E. Koeut Rith, Srey Sina is charged with murder under Article 199 of the Criminal Code, which is punishable with 10 to 15 years in prison.

He is also charged with attempted murder under Articles 27 and 199 of the Criminal Code, with a sentence of 10 to 15 years in prison, and with illegal use of firearms under Article 20 of the Law on the Management of Weapons, Explosives, and Ammunition, which is punishable by imprisonment for 6 months to 2 years.

The deputy prime minister a
ppreciated the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for the proceeding, stressing that for the next step he will request the inclusion of Srey Sina in a list of vicious murders who deserve no pardon.

SECURITY FORCES VIGILANT IN COUNTERING DAESH EXTREMIST ELEMENTS, ASSURES HOME MINISTER


KUALA LUMPUR, National security forces remain on high alert to address any threats, particularly those involving elements of the extremist group Daesh, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.

He said this was evident through the success of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in detaining several individuals who recently attempted to spread the ideology.

‘The Daesh elements still exist, but the police have successfully thwarted these attempts, showing that the security forces are always in a state of readiness.

‘These arrests also indicate that the Daesh elements are within the scope where the security forces can manage them,’ he said when asked to comment on the country’s security level following the recent detention of eight individuals involved in Daesh ideology.

It was reported on Monday that eight locals were detained in a simultaneous operation in four states over the weekend for their suspected involvement with the Daesh terrorist group ideology.

The arrests involved six men and two women in Kelantan, Selangor, Johor and Penang, with all the suspects, aged between 25 and 70, detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA).
