Landslip Near Taman Cheras Mas Apartments in Kuala Lumpur, No Casualties Reported

Kuala Lumpur – A 30-metre landslip occurred near the Taman Cheras Mas Apartments in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon following heavy rain. The incident, which did not result in any casualties, has raised concerns among local residents and prompted a response from emergency services.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail informed that a team from the Bandar Tun Hussein Onn fire station was dispatched to the site immediately after receiving a distress call at 4.35 pm. The primary focus of the team was to ensure public safety and to cordon off the area, preventing people from entering the vicinity of the landslip. Wan Ismail noted that the landslip took place about 30 to 45 metres from the apartment buildings.

Residents of the apartments expressed their concerns over the incident. Yong Ah Kew, 65, a resident of the apartment, recalled being awakened by loud noises and the sound of falling rocks around 2 am and 5 am. He described the event as more severe than a similar incident that occurred in June.

Another resident, Lim Cheng San, 64, became aware of the landslip at around 7 am while going out for breakfast. Lim, who is also a leader of one of the apartment blocks, mentioned that a smaller landslip had previously occurred at the same location. Following that incident, residents had filed complaints with the Kajang Municipal Council.

Lim expressed relief that the landslip did not result in any loss of life, especially considering that many children often play in the area where the landslip occurred during the evenings.

The case has been handed over to local authorities for further action. This incident underscores the need for increased vigilance and potentially more robust safety measures in areas prone to landslips, especially in residential zones.
