Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly (NA), has congratulated the 13th anniversary (July 7, 2008-2021) and the 4th anniversary (July 8, 2017-2021) of listing Preah Vihear Temple and Sambor Prei Kuk Temple, respectively on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

“The decision to inscribe both temples as World Heritage Sites does not happen by chance, but a historical event which reflects the efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia in maintaining and protecting the priceless national cultural heritage,” stressed the NA president.
As a younger generation, he continued, we always remember the glorious victory of Cambodia, led by the late King-Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk, over Thailand in the Preah Vihear Temple case at the International Court of Justice in The Hague on June 15, 1962.
Samdech Heng Samrin laid stress on the indispensability of peace and political stability and called on all fellow citizens to preserve, protect, and develop all tangible and intangible heritage.
Located on top of Dangrek mountain range in Sa-em commune, Chorm Ksan district, Preah Vihear province, Preah Vihear Temple was inscribed on the World Heritage List at the 32nd session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee on July 7, 2008 in Quebec, Canada.
Sambor Prei Kuk Temple, a group of Khmer ancient temples, was named a World Heritage Site on July 8, 2017 during the 41st session of the World Heritage Committee held in Krakow, Poland. This well-known cultural, historical and archaeological site of Cambodia, situated in Sambo village, Sambo commune, Prasat Sambo district, Kampong Thom province, encompasses 3,000 hectare land surface in the forest, about 30 kilometres from Kampong Thom provincial town.
