Remaining Japan-donated AstraZeneca Vaccines Arrive in Cambodia

The remaining 668,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine, which Japan is licenced to produce, arrived at Phnom Penh International Airport tonight.
The arrival of the last batch of the Japan-donated 1 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine was welcomed by H.E. Dr. Yuok Sambath, Secretary of State for the Ministry of Health and Mr. Karimata Atsushi, Minister, Embassy of Japan to Cambodia,.
The first batch of 332,000 doses arrived here on July 23. The handover-receiving ceremony were presided over by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Japanese Ambassador H.E. Mikami Masahiro.
To date, the Japanese Government has provided a total of more than US$50 million worth assistance to Cambodia. This includes the donation of medical equipment, the renovation of hospitals, support for infection prevention measures at the borders through international organisations, and equipment to properly carry and store vaccines. It has also provided a loan of approximately US$227 million, which is being used to provide cash benefit to people affected by COVID-19 and to strengthen the medical care provision system.
With the newly arrived vaccines, Cambodia has now about 21.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines in stock through purchases and donations: 7.2 million doses of Sinopharm, 11.5 million doses of Sinovac, 1,739,000 doses of AstraZeneca, and 1,064,600 doses of Johnson & Johnson.
As of Aug. 5, for the target of 10-million adults, 7,612,663 people have got their first jab, or 76.13 percent, among them 5,317,639 have been fully vaccinated.
For the children-youth aged 12 to under 18, whose vaccination campaign began on Aug. 1, 197,806 or 10.06 percent of the two-million target have received their first dose.
