ROME, March 17, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — (LaPresse) — Strong growth in 2022: Webuild exceeded expectations by closing last year with a turnover of €8.2 billion, 22 per cent higher than in 2021, and EBITDA at €572 million, up 27 per cent. The Italian multinational construction and engineering group saw an increase in its orders worldwide last year, with €16 billion of new orders, 75 per cent of which came from foreign markets; in total, orders reached €54.3 billion, a record result for the second consecutive year. Overall, 70 per cent of the turnover was generated abroad, although Italy remains a strategic market for the group.

Cambodia-Japan Cooperation on Labour and Vocational Training

Cambodia and Japan have pledged to foster the cooperation in labour and vocational training.

The pledge was made in a meeting between H.E. Ith Samheng, Cambodian Minister of Labour and Vocational Training and H.E. UENO Atsushi, Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia here in Phnom Penh on Mar. 16.

H.E. Ith Samheng thanked the Government of Japan for supporting Cambodia’s human resources development and attracting Japanese investments to Cambodia creating more jobs for Cambodians.

The minister also encouraged Japan to increase the number of Cambodian trainees and skilled workers to work in Japan.

The ambassador deeply appreciated the cooperation with Cambodia and will consider the minister’s proposal.

Indian Embassy Marks ITEC Day in Cambodia

Indian Embassy in Cambodia yesterday marked the ITEC Day celebration in Phnom Penh, while Cambodia and India are commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations.

H.E. Mrs. Ing Kantha Phavi, Cambodian Minister of Women’s Affairs, H.E. Sry Thamrong, Minister Delegate Attached to the Cambodian Prime Minister, and H.E. Dr. Devyani Khobragade, Ambassador of India to Cambodia presided over the celebration.

On the occasion, H.E. Dr. Devyani Khobragade said Cambodia and India have so far held a successful implementation of ITEC Programme.

The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme, ITEC for short, is the leading capacity building platform of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, said H.E. Ambassador, continuing that instituted in 1964, ITEC is one of the oldest institutionalised arrangements for international capacity building having trained more than 200,000 officials from more than 160 countries.

“This year marks the 58 glorious years of the ITEC Programme. You will be happy to know that even during the pandemic, India reached out to its partner countries through e-ITEC courses,” she underlined.

According to the Indian Embassy, more than 2,000 Cambodian nationals, working in various Ministries / Departments / autonomous bodies such as National Bank of Cambodia, Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority, Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority, Police Academy of Cambodia, among others have benefited from training programmes in the respective fields of their work.

During 2021-2022, more than 350 Cambodian nationals availed online training under ITEC. In the current year 2022-2023, more than 200 Cambodian nationals have benefited from ITEC training courses in both virtual and physical formats.

Banking System Maintains Strong Growth with Adequate Liquidity

The current banking system in Cambodia is healthy with strong capital, adequate liquidity and low non-performing loans, according to the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC).

An NBC’s report showed that banking institutions provided a total of US$55.2 billion in loans as of January 2023 to some 3.8 million borrowers.

At the same time, they received a total of US$42.7 billion in deposits from 15.8 million deposit accounts.

H.E. Rath Sovannorak, Assistant Governor and Director General of the NBC’s Banking Supervision, said at the launching ceremony of the Wing Bank branch held here early this week that the banking sector plays an important role in the economic and social development of Cambodia.

“Supervision of banking and financial institutions remains a priority, which must be carried out in accordance with the new standards of risk-based and prospects,” he said.

The implementation of the financial environment, which plays an important role in enabling people to access the official financial services in a timely manner, appropriate, affordable and have legal protection, he added.

The country currently has 58 commercial banks, nine specialised banks, and 86 microfinance institutions, with a total of 2,614 headquarters and branches as well as 3,998 automated teller machines (ATMs) throughout the country, the NBC said.
