KBS TO PROVIDE MORE PLATFORMS TO ADDRESS TRANSITIONAL CHALLENGES

SHAH ALAM, The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) will continue to provide more opportunities and platforms for youth organisations to gain exposure and support in addressing the various challenges they face during the transition to adulthood.

Its Deputy Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim said the Kembara Jumpa Orang Muda (JOM) programme is a new initiative by the ministry to offer additional information to its target audience about the implementation of the Youth Leadership Transition Plan.

“Alhamdulillah, with each leg of this tour we’re witnessing a growing number of youths actively participating and to enable us to engage with individuals who may not yet be affiliated with any organisation.

‘In addition to providing information on Act 668 (Youth Societies and Youth Development Act 2007), the primary objective of this programme is to actively recruit new leaders and members for societies,’ he told reporters at the Kembara JOM programme at Shah Alam City Council Convention Centre.

The Kembara initiative, l
ed by KBS in collaboration with the Registrar of Youth Office (ROY) and the Department of Youth and Sports (JBSN), began in Melaka on Feb 17 with the objective to enable youth stakeholders to directly offer feedback and insights on the draft Youth Leadership Transition Plan to the highest leadership within the ministry.

The feedback and insights collected will be utilised to refine the plan, which will then be used to make changes to Act 668.

The amendments to Act 668 include revising the definition of youth as up to 30 years old, setting the age limit for youth organisation leaders or office bearers at 18 to 30 years old and limiting the term of youth leaders to four years.

KPKT IN TALKS WITH SELANGOR, PENANG ON ADOPTION OF ACT 672 – NGA

IPOH, The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) is in talks with the Selangor and Penang governments about the adoption of the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672).

Minister Nga Kor Ming said that if both states agreed, they would join the other seven states that have adopted the act.

“Selangor has agreed in principle, and I had an audience with the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who has given his consent to adopting Act 672. We are now awaiting the decision from the MMK (the state executive council meeting) to start discussions with Selangor in detail,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after officiating the Urban Community Sustainability Programme (PKKB): PPR Community Carnival @ Rumah Pangsa Jalan Hospital here today.

Nga said that so far, seven states have adopted Act 672, while five more, namely Kelantan, Terengganu, Perak, Selangor and Penang, have yet to sign the agreement.

Act 672 aims to ensure uniformity in law for the proper contr
ol and regulation of matters relating to the management of controlled solid waste and public cleansing.

Nga said the government would continue to negotiate with states that have not yet adopted the act.

“Our door is always open. Take Perak, for example, the state with the highest number of PBTs (local authorities) in the peninsula, totaling 15. We respect the state government’s decision (not to adopt Act 672) but we always welcome it (to adopt the act) and we will continue to conduct negotiations,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nga said KPKT, through the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp), will set up 130 drive-through recycling centres (DRTC) nationwide through the Zero Waste Community Programme (KOSIS).

KUALA TERENGGANU, The Terengganu state government, in collaboration with the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC), is taking proactive steps to enhance the quality of regulations through the implementation of MyMudah to boost the state’s productivity, competitiveness and economic growth.

State Secretary Datuk Seri Tengku Farok Hussin Tengku Abdul Jalil said through the platform, facilitated by MPC and the Special Task Force to Facilitate Business (Pemudah), a more conducive business ecosystem can be established to achieve economic growth and increase high-impact investment in Terengganu.

He said MyMudah serves as a platform for industries to channel information, suggestions and views on bureaucracy-related issues and undue regulatory burdens.

‘We are aware of the numerous regulations and guidelines at the state and local authorities levels that businesses must comply with. Therefore, through MyMudah, industries can directly connect and collaborate with the relevant authorities to resolve issues and cha
llenges related to business regulations without navigating the red tape.

‘Investment, whether domestic or foreign, has a significant impact on state revenue, the improvement of local socio-economic status and the creation of new job opportunities,’ he said in his speech at the state-level MyMudah Conference 2024 here today, which was officiated by the Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.

MPC director-general Zahid Ismail attended the event, which also saw the launch of guidelines on MyMudah, Terengganu state licensing and artificial intelligence for MyMudah, as well as the presentation of the certificate for the establishment of the MyMudah Unit.

Tengku Farok Hussin said in line with MPC’s intention to create a more transparent mechanism in the process of permit and licence management, the state government and the local authorities have committed to the project of improving Business Licensing guidelines, which contributes to a more conducive business ecosystem in the state.

He said MyM
udah could also assist public servants in carrying out their responsibilities as facilitators for businesses through a more integrated, structured and evidence-based approach.

Meanwhile, during his speech at the closing ceremony, Zahid urged for the full utilisation of the MyMudah platform to address issues and challenges in the delivery of business regulations as it will have a positive impact not only on industry players but also on authorities, assisting them to implement regulations more efficiently.

‘The state can attract more high-impact investors when business transactions and operations are facilitated. MPC believes that implementing MyMudah nationwide will enhance productivity and competitiveness, leading to a better quality of life and improved wellbeing,’ he added.

Earlier, witnessed by 300 participants from the state government, local authorities, the federal government and business associations, Tengku Farok Hussin received the Productivity Personality Award for his leadership and commitment t
o ensuring business operations in Terengganu are conducted smoothly, supported by pro-business policies.
