Cambodia, Laos to Deepen Collaboration in Combating Cross-border Crime


The Cambodian Ministry of Interior and the Lao Ministry of Public Security have been encouraged to continue strengthening and expanding their close cooperation in the fight against cross-border crime, human trafficking, drug trafficking and so on.

Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, made the encouragement while receiving a courtesy call from visiting H.E. Gen. Vilay Lakhamphong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, at the Peace Palace here this afternoon.

Besides, Samdech Thipadei spoke highly of the good relations between the two neighbouring countries, particularly between the Cambodian Ministry of Interior and the Lao Ministry of Public Security. He also noted the Lao government’s commitment to supply electricity to Cambodia to respond to the Kingdom’s energy needs.

The Premier expressed Cambodia’s readiness to support Laos as the host of ASEAN Summit this year.

For his part, H.E. Gen. Vilay Lakhamphong told Samd
ech Thipadei of his visit, the purpose of which is to participate in the annual meeting between the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia and the Ministry of Public Security of Laos to further tighthen their cooperation in key areas such as the fight against transnational crimes, human trafficking, drug trafficking, etc.

The two ministries will further foster their cooperation through exchanging visits, sharing experience and technical skills, exchanging students studying police skills, and continuing cooperation in resolving border issues peacefully to facilitate the movement of people of the two countries and to maintain the common border as the border of peace and development.

Earlier on the same day, H.E. Gen. Vilay Lakhamphong also paid separate courtesy visits to Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister of Cambodia and current President of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King, and Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and cu
rrent Member of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King.

Cambodia Attracts Over US$ 4.1 Billion Investment in Six Months


During the first six months after the 7th-mandate Royal Government took office, Cambodia attracted in total more than US$ 4.1 billion foreign investments, said Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet at the 6th Cabinet Plenary Session, held at the Peace Palace here this morning.

Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister said from September 2023 to February 2024, in the field of investment, Cambodia attracted 173 investment projects worth some US$ 4.15 billion and generated a total of over 170,000 jobs.

“The Royal Government is actively working to improve the investment environment to boost the economic activities and create jobs,” he said, adding that in fact, he himself, as well as many other leaders at both the national and sub-national levels, have met and communicated with the private sector, both inside and outside the country since the beginning of the term.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet noted that most foreign investors saw the potential of Cambodia and they were interested in investing in the Kin
gdom.

The majority of those projects are in the areas of agriculture, agro-industry and infrastructure projects, while most of the foreign investors are from China, Singapore, the U.S., South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Brunei, Sweden, Canada, Japan and many others.

8th River Festival Kicks off in Siem Reap Province


Siem Reap province, home to the UNESCO-listed Angkor Archeological Park, is hosting the 8th River Festival from Mar. 15 to 17 along the Siem Reap River, between the Royal Residence and Wat Bo pagoda, to promote tourism potential along the riparian provinces in Cambodia.

Under the theme ‘River for Peace and Development,’ the annual event this year features art performances and concerts by national and international artists, a fireworks display, a tourism product exhibition, a Mekong food festival, and entertainment activities, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

The 8th River Festival is seen as a solemn celebration aimed at highlighting the priceless importance of the Kingdom of Cambodia’s rivers under the shadow of peace, national unity and sustainable development, the Ministry of Tourism said.

In addition to showcasing the beauty of the Kingdom of Cambodia’s vibrant waterways, the 8th River Festival will be a platform for cultural exchange, education and community engagement, attracting locals and for
eign tourists to actively participate in the conservation of these important natural resources, stated the ministry.

The thrilled festival will contribute to the growth of tourists and increase the potential of tourism in Siem Reap and the riparian provinces of the Kingdom of Cambodia, the ministry’s Secretary of State and Spokesperson H.E Top Sopheak said.

‘The Ministry of Tourism puts high hopes of more national and international tourists to attend the event like those in previous years,’ H.E Top Sopheak said.

Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, will preside over the official opening ceremony of 8th River Festival on Mar. 16.

Organised since 2015, the River Festival is aimed to inspire movement of the public to participate in the development of sustainable river resources and to participate in the tourism diversification campaign by creating new tourism events in riparian provinces.

Tourism is one of the four pillars supporting Cambodia’s economy. The Kingdom attracted s
ome 5.43 million international tourists in 2023, a sharp increase of 139 percent from 2.27 million in 2022, the official report showed.

Cambodia is well known for its world cultural heritage sites, namely the Angkor Archaeological Park in Siem Reap province, the Preah Vihear Temple and Koh Ker Temple in Preah Vihear province, and the Sambor Prei Kuk Archaeological Site in Kampong Thom province.

Besides, the Kingdom has a 450-kilometre-long pristine coastline stretching across four southwestern provinces of Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep and Koh Kong.

Cambodia, Zambia Affirm to Promote Bilateral Relations and Cooperation


Zambia has reaffirmed to continue strengthening and expanding the ties of friendship and cooperation with Cambodia, especially in the fields of trade, investment, mine and agriculture.

The commitment was voiced by H.E. Morecome Mumba, newly appointed Ambassador of Zambia, while he was presenting credentials to Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei SAY Chhum, Acting Head of State, at the Senate Palace here this morning.

For his part, Samdech SAY Chhum spoke highly of the bilateral relations and cooperation between both countries so far, and was convinced that they would be promoted to a new height during H.E. Morecome Mumba’s diplomatic term.

The Acting Head of State also mentioned that Cambodia was ready to cordially collaborate with the new Zambian ambassador for additional mutual benefits of both countries and fellow citizens.
