Cambodia, Liechtenstein for High Quality Workforce


Cambodia and the Principality of Liechtenstein in the European Union (EU) have agreed to continue to cooperate on vocational training for a high-quality and productive Cambodian workforce.

H.E. Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, and Mrs. Dominique Hasler, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Education, and Sports of Liechtenstein, discussed the cooperation on Feb. 29 at the ministry in Phnom Penh.

H.E. Heng Sour thanked the visiting delegation of Liechtenstein for their support, which was very well in line with the government’s commitment, which will contribute to further attracting investment to Cambodia.

Attracting investment to Cambodia is very competitive regionally, added the minister, therefore, Cambodia needs to ensure high quality of its labour force to meet the market’s need.

H.E. Sok Eysan and H.E. Heng Halim Elected Senators for 5th Legislature


The National Assembly (NA) yesterday elected H.E. Sok Eysan and H.E. Heng Halim as senators for the fifth legislature.

This election took place at the NA Palace in the NA’s 7th Extraordinary Session under the chairmanship of NA President, Samdech Moha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary.

H.E. Sok Isan and H.E. Heng Halim were selected out of four candidates. The other two are H.E. Ear Khimeng and Mr. Tep Kosal.

The Senate of Cambodia is composed of 62 seats, 58 of which are elected in a non-universal suffrage, two are appointed by His Majesty the King, and the other two are elected by the NA.

According to the preliminary results released recently by the National Election Committee (NEC), in the 5th Senate election held on Feb. 25, the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) won 55 seats and the Khmer Will Party obtained 3 seats.

The other two participating parties: FUNCINPEC and the National Power Party did not get enough votes to gain a seat.

First Cambodia, Japan High-Level Defence Dialogue


Senior Defence officials of Cambodia and Japan have held first high-level dialogue in Siem Reap province for exchange of experience.

The Cambodian side was led by Gen. Yun Min, Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia and the Japanese by H.E. Serizawa Kiyoshi, Deputy Minister at the Japanese Ministry of Defence is in charge of international affairs.

According to Gen. Yun Min, the meeting serves as a policy-making mechanism to promote military cooperation between the two countries.

During the gathering, the two sides also agreed on human resource training, peacekeeping operations, maritime security, disaster relief, demining, regional security.

FreshStart Energy Interested to Invest in Cambodia


A private firm – FreshStart Energy – has expressed their interest to invest in Cambodia in using new technologies for electricity consumption management.

The interest was highlighted by Mr. Mario Vecchio, CEO of FreshStart Energy, while he was paying a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, in Melbourne, Australia on Mar. 2.

Mr. Mario Vecchio told Samdech Thipadei of FreshStart Energy, a subsidiary of FreshStart, which operates in Australia and other countries such as Singapore and Thailand. In Australia, the firm is using new technologies to manage electricity use in schools, hospitals and gas stations.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet welcomed the investment intention, underlining Cambodia’s commitment to connect the Cambodian and Australian private sectors, in addition to the government-to-government and people-to-people relations.

The Premier encouraged FreshStart Energy to explore investment opportunities in Cambodia by cooperating with the Council for the Develo
pment of Cambodia (CDC) and the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and First Lady Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony arrived in Melbourne this morning to attend the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit to Commemorate the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-Australia Dialogue Relations until Mar. 6.

Cambodian Senior Official Attends 12th Security and Foreign Affairs Sub-Committee Meeting on CLV-DTA


A Cambodian delegation led by H.E. MEAS Kim Heng, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Chairman of the Security and Foreign Affairs Sub-committee of Cambodia, has attended the 12th Security and Foreign Affairs Sub-Committee Meeting on Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam Development Triangle Area (CLV-DTA) in Attapeu, Laos.

The meeting was held as part of the 13th Meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee on the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area (CLV-DTA JCC) co-chaired by H.E. Ms. CHAM Nimul, Minister of Commerce of Cambodia, and her Vietnamese and Lao counterparts from Feb. 26 to Mar. 1, 2024.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, during the meeting in the field of security and foreign affairs, H.E. MEAS Kim Heng highlighted the importance of cooperation among CLV countries including the prevention of human and drugs trafficking, illegal border crossing, Unexploded Ordnance clearance, and cooperation of local autho
rities in addressing challenges to promote trade, investment, infrastructure, tourism, agriculture and people-to-people connectivity in line with the spirit of the 11th Summit of CLV-DTA and the MoU toward the Formulation of the Special Preferential Policies for CLV-DTA.

Worth noting that the 13th Ministerial Meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee on ‘CLV-DTA’ agreed to conclude the draft Master Plan for Socio-Economic Development in the CLV-DTA up to 2030 for submission to 12th CLV-DTA Summit to be held in the Kingdom of Cambodia in late 2024 for review and adoption.
