Cambodia, Indonesia Committed to Further Fostering Bilateral Cooperation


Cambodia and Indonesia highly value their excellent cooperation in the past 65 years of diplomatic relations, and vowed to further boosting it for their mutual interest.

The commitment was made by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and Indonesian President H.E. Joko Widodo during their meeting in Melbourne on Mar. 5, on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-Australia Dialogue Relations.

Both leaders expressed their delight to meet each other again, after their bilateral meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia in September 2023.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and H.E. Joko Widodo discussed key areas that are subject to further strengthening and expanding cooperation and common interests between Cambodia and Indonesia, including diplomacy, economy and trade, tourism and security.

The two leaders agreed to continue to promote the cooperation in the said sectors as well as to further enhance cooperation in other potential fields.

At th
e same time, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet thanked H.E. Joko Widodo for the invitation to pay an official visit to Indonesia at any convenient time in the future.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet Meets Australian Counterpart to Discuss Cooperation Strengthening


Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet held a bilateral talk with Australian Prime Minister H.E. Anthony Albanese, on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-Australia Dialogue Relations in Melbourne on Mar. 5.

On the occasion, H.E. Anthony Albanese praised Cambodia, stressing that she is a great and resilient nation despite the hardships of the genocidal regime.

The Australian leader spoke highly of the long-lasting relations between Cambodia and Australia which dates back to more than seven decades ago, and their peoples have benefitted from this good relationship.

In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed his gratitude to the people and government of Australia for their support to Cambodia, especially during the peace-seeking process in the 1990s. Cambodia could not attain the current socio-economic development without Australia’s support to important sectors such as agriculture, health, demining, security and so o
n, he added.

In the framework of further strengthening and expanding cooperation, Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister suggested key areas for cooperation, including trade and economy, education, labour, and defence.

The Cambodian Premier told his Australian counterpart that he highlighted Cambodia’s potential in the Australia-Cambodia Business Forum held earlier in the morning, and welcomed the signing of an agreement on air transport services, which will boost the tourism activities between the two countries.

The Prime Minister of Australia welcomed the above-said suggestion on areas of cooperation and accepted Samdech Thipadei’s invitation to pay an official visit to Cambodia in the near future.

Cambodia and Singapore to Strengthen and Expand Bilateral Cooperation


Cambodia and Singapore will further strengthen and expand their bilateral cooperation in the fields of politics, trade, economy, defence, security, energy and Tourism.

This is the spirit of the bilateral meeting between Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, and his Singaporean counterpart H.E. Lee Hsien Loong in Melbourne on Mar. 5, on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-Australia Dialogue Relations.

In the meeting, both leaders recalled their first meeting at the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia in September 2023, and discussed the cooperation in key areas such as politics, trade and economy, tourism, energy security, and defence and security. They also exchanged views on the promotion of cooperation on high-level exchanges of visit, connectivity, people-to-people relations, and so on.

In political sector, the two leaders noted the importance and benefits of resuming political consultations and agreed to push
for a second round of political consultations between Cambodia and Singapore in the near future.

For trade and economy, the two leaders agreed to promote better relations by encouraging cooperation between relevant ministries and institutions of the two countries for initiatives and specific actions.

The two leaders also agreed to boost defence and security cooperation, which contributes to the fight against cybercrime, online gambling, etc.

Regarding energy security, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet informed his Singaporean counterpart that during the recent meeting with the Prime Minister of Malaysia, the Malaysian side agreed and supported the submarine power transmission project (Laos-Cambodia-Singapore) across the Malaysian seabed.

Cambodia Encourages Australia to Do Business and Investment in High-Value-Added Sectors


Cambodia has encouraged Australian business and investor community to further increase business and investment activities in high-value-added sectors such as agriculture and agro-processing, logistics, e-commerce, and digital technology, considered as priority sectors for economic development of the Royal Government of Cambodia.

The inspiration was made by H.E. Ms. Cham Nimul, Cambodian Minister of Commerce, during a meeting with Senator the Hon Tim Ayres, Assistant Minister for Trade and Assistant Minister for Manufacturing of Australia, in Melbourne on Mar. 5, while she was accompanying Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet to participate in the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-Australia Dialogue Relations.

On the occasion both sides discussed the strengthening of bilateral economic relations and cooperation between the two countries.

H.E. Ms. Cham Nimul underscored the important roles of private sectors of both countries in Cambodia’s economic d
evelopment, especially the creation of employment opportunities, and trade and industrial diversification in the Kingdom.

Both parties also exchanged views to additionally strengthen and promote existing business activities and bilateral trade flows of both countries to a new height, and laid stress on the importance of implementation of Agreements on ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Area (AANZFTA) and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

Cambodia, UK Discuss Ways to Boost Bilateral Investment and Trade Cooperation


H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, received here on Monday the United Kingdom (UK) Minister for the Indo-Pacific, Rt Hon. Anne-Marie Trevelyan, discussing the bilateral cooperation on investment and trade, and UK backed-Green special economic zone project in Cambodia.

In the meeting, according to a press release, H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth expressed his deep gratitude for the cooperation between the two countries in the past, especially the UK’s support for Cambodia’s exports and the initiative of the Green SEZ project in Cambodia, contributing to the socio-economic development of Cambodia.

The Deputy Prime Minister also briefed his guest on the general situation of the Cambodian economy, the continuation of macroeconomic stability in line with the recovery of Cambodia’s economic growth, the introduction of the first phase of the Pentagonal Strategy, as well as strategies and measures for new reforms at the beginning of the new mandate of the Royal Governmen
t for Cambodia toward the goal of a high-income country by 2050.

For her part, Rt Hon. Anne-Marie Trevelyan highly valued the significant progress of the Cambodia-UK cooperation and expressed the UK’s commitment to further strengthen and expand existing cooperation and promote investment in Cambodia, particularly the development of the Green SEZ and the efforts to attract new British investors to Cambodia.

Both sides also shared views on reforms to attract more foreign investors to Cambodia, particularly in terms of business registration, financial support, debt management and so on.

The bilateral trade between Cambodia and the UK amounted to US$872 million in 2023, a year-on-year decrease of 10.7 percent, said a report of the General Department of Customs and Excise.

Of the amount, Cambodia exported US$796 million worth of goods to the UK, a decline by 10.2 percent and her imports from the UK dropped by 15.9 percent to US$76 million.
