Cambodia, an Attractive Tourist, Investment and Trade Destination in Asia


Cambodia has become an attractive tourist, investment and trade destination in Asia, said Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet while pressing over the official opening ceremony of the 8th River Festival in Siem Reap provincial city this evening.

The Premier also laid stress on the significance of the tourism sector, saying that it is a key driving force for Cambodia’s economic growth in the last 30 years.

Samdech Thipadei called on relevant ministries and institutions to continue to prioritise the development of riverine areas, particularly in the provinces around the Mekong River and Tonle Sap Lake, to build essential infrastructure supporting tourism, enhance connectivity, and improve transportation.

The 8th River Festival has been taking place from Mar. 15 to 17 along the Siem Reap River, between the Royal Residence and Wat Bo pagoda, to promote tourism potential along the riparian provinces in Cambodia.

Under the theme ‘River for Peace and Development,’ this year’s event features art
performances and concerts by national and international artists, a fireworks display, local products exhibition, a tourism fair, a Mekong food festival, and entertainment activities.

River Festival is organised every year on a rotation basis by the riparian provinces, and the first event was organised in Kratie in 2015, followed by the second in Stung Treng, the third in Kampong Cham and Thbong Khmum, the fourth in Kandal, the fifth in Kampong Chhnang, the sixth in Battambang, and the seventh in Kampong Thom.

PM Urges for Continued Collaboration for Success of ‘Visit Siem Reap 2024’


Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, has called on all stakeholders to continue their close cooperation to boost the tourism in Siem Reap province, home to the famous Angkor temples, especially to bolster the success of ‘Visit Siem Reap 2024.

The Premier made the appeal at the official opening ceremony of the 8th River Festival in Siem Reap provincial city this evening.

‘Relevant ministries, institutions, development partners, and the private sector must continue to collaborate closely, following the ‘Dynamics of Stakeholder System’ approach, to implement measures and policies aimed at achieving the goals of the special programme ‘Visit Siem Reap 2024′,’ he said.

Moreover, Samdech Thipadei has called upon the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, and the Siem Reap Provincial Administration to study and consider transforming Phnom Kulen National Park into a highly attracti
ve destination for cultural, natural, adventure, and religious tourism, thereby further diversifying Cambodian tourism products.

Samdech Thipadei also urged all relevant ministries and institutions to devise strategies that promote gatherings such as meetings, Vipassana sessions, sports, and other events in Siem Reap, aiming to bolster the success of the special programme ‘Visit Siem Reap 2024’ and coming years.

‘[We] must promote the production of diverse tourism products to supply the tourism sector, thereby fostering ‘on-site exports’ in line with the Pentagonal Strategy – Phase 1 of the Royal Government’s 7th legislature,’ he underlined. In this regard, Samdech Thipadei has urged the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Commerce, and the Siem Reap Provincial Administration to study the establishment of a ‘Green Belt’ area around Siem Reap with an aim is to ensure the supply of agricultural products such as vegetables, fruits, fish, and meat to meet da
ily needs and cater to the tourism sector, especially, to develop agro-tourism products to enhance Cambodia’s tourism potential.

The cultural province of Siem Reap has been hosting the 8th River Festival from Mar. 15 to 17 under the theme ‘River for Peace and Development,’, to promote tourism potential of Siem Reap as well as that of other riparian provinces in Cambodia.

Phnom Penh to Host MLC Week Event Next Week


The Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) Week Event will be held in Phnom Penh next week to mark the 8th MLC Anniversary.

The information was shared by H.E. MEAS Kim Heng, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and MLC SOM Leader of Cambodia, while receiving Mr. CHEN Cong, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of Cambodia.

During the meeting, H.E. Secretary of State also conveyed his warm congratulations to Mr. CHEN Cong for his appointment as Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, especially in charge of the MLC framework.

In addition, he underscored the significance of the MLC framework in contributing to socio-economic development in the region.

H.E. Secretary of State and Minister-Counsellor Chen reaffirmed their commitment to continue working closely in advancing the MLC cooperation framework to ensure the successful implementation of MLC Plan of Action 2023-2027 so as to realise MLC
Leaders’ vision of building a Community of Shared Future of Peace and Prosperity among Mekong-Lancang countries.

The LMC consists of six countries – Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the MLC mechanism, established in November 2015, is aimed to promote social and economic development in the Mekong sub-region, reducing the development gap and promoting comprehensive cooperation between ASEAN and China.

The collaboration focuses on three main pillars (Political and Security Cooperation, Economic and Sustainable Development and Social, Cultural and People to People Exchanges) and key priority areas, namely connectivity, production capacity, cross-border economic cooperation, water resources and agriculture and poverty reduction. Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund has been set up and launched to support the small and medium projects from the Mekong-Lancang countries.

Cambodia, Korea Agree to Boost ICT Skills Cooperation


The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MoLVT) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) have committed to cooperating in training Cambodian workers with information and communication technology (ICT) skills.

H.E. Heng Sour, Cambodian Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, and visiting H.E. Chang Won Sam, President of KOICA, made the commitment during their meeting here at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra on Mar. 15.

H.E. Heng Sour underlined that capacity building for Cambodian workers will expand quotas for them to work in the Republic of Korea.

The skills will benefit both Cambodia and Korea because Cambodian skilled workers will increase their productivity when working in Korea and then bring the skills and experience back to Cambodia, contributing to the country’s development.

Following on the same day, H.E. Heng Sour signed a memorandum of understanding to extend the labour cooperation with H.E. Choi Moon-Soon, Mayor of Hwacheon district of South Korea’s Gangwon province.

Cambodia, Indonesia Committed to Strengthening Health Cooperation


Indonesia is committed to further strengthening its cooperation in the health sector with Cambodia.

The commitment was made by H.E. Santo Darmosumarto, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to Cambodia, in a meeting with H.E. Prof. Chheang Ra, Cambodian Minister of Health, in Phnom Penh on Mar. 14.

The cooperation is advancing through the planned signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two countries’ Ministries of Health.

Indonesia has also expanded investment in medicine and medical equipment in Cambodia and provided scholarships to Cambodian students in the health sector.

H.E. Prof. Chheang Ra spoke highly of the good collaboration and thanked the Government of Indonesia for its contribution to the ministry’s effort to promote the well-being of the Cambodian people.
