A Cruise Ship Carrying Some 463 Tourists Visit Sihanoukville


A tourist ship named “Sea Bourn Encore”, with some 463 tourists of 24 different nationalities, 235 of whom are women, on board is paying a day-long visit in Sihanoukville of Preah Sihanouk province.

The 210.5-metre-long, 28-metre-wide and 6-metre-deep cruise ship sailing under the flag of Bahamas docked at Sihanoukville Autonomous Port this morning.

According to an immigration police officer, most of the tourists are American (166) and British (125). Four of the tourists continued their trip to Siem Reap cultural province to visit Angkor temples, while the rest visited cultural resorts, beaches and other tourist attractions in the Preah Sihanouk coastal province.

Coming from Vietnam, the cruise ship with 422 crewmembers of 46 different nationalities, of them 100 are women, will depart for Thailand this evening, he added.

This is the fourth time that the cruise ship docked in the province since the beginning of this year.

Construction of Techo International Airport Now 66 Percent Completed


The first phase of the Techo International Airport (IATA Code KTI), located in Kandal and Takeo provinces, was 66.1 percent completed as of Feb. 27, according to a report from the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation.

The airport construction will finish in October this year as works are proceeding as planned, read the report.

‘The airport’s official commencement is set for mid-2025,’ the same source pointed out.

The report added that the construction of the main infrastructure of the Techo International Airport project was completed as planned.

The construction of terminals is now 58.6 percent completed, power supply centres 76.8 percent, air field related works 64.4 percent and air traffic control tower 100 percent.

Managed by Cambodia Airport Investment Co., Ltd., the project is a public-private partnership between Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation with a 90 percent stake and the remaining 10 percent belongs to the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation.

The Cambodia Airport Investment has spent
a total construction cost of US$961 million.

As a large-scale international airport level/Class 4F, built over 2,600 hectares of land, this airport is divided into three phases of construction – Phase 1 from 2020 to 2030, Phase 2 from 2030 to 2050 and Phase 3 from 2050 onwards.

KTI in the first phase will be capable of handling a maximum of 13 million passengers and 175,000 tonnes of cargo per year.

Cambodia has currently three international airports, two of which – Phnom Penh International Airport and Sihanoukville International Airport – are under the management of Cambodia Airports, while the Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport is managed by Angkor International Airport Investment (Cambodia) Co., Ltd., an affiliate of China’s Yunnan Investment Holdings Ltd.

PM Stresses Cambodia’s High Attention to Digital Revolution


Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet said Cambodia has been paying high attention to digital revolution.

In his keynote address at the opening ceremony of the 1st Digital Government Forum held here at the Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre this morning under the theme “Sustainable and Inclusive Development through Digital Policies Implementation,” Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined that the digital revolution is to grasp and maximise the benefits of the development of information and communication technology and digital technology to increase productivity and economic efficiency, as well as promote national economic growth and build a civilised society where the citizens can benefit from the use of digital services that are inclusive, reliable and highly secure, while at the same time preserving their national identity and culture.

According to Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Cambodia has set forth and put into action some mechanisms, which constitute a roadmap and a long-term econom
ic vision to shape a vibrant digital society, to embrace the digital revolution in all sectors of society – the citizens, the state and the business community, to drive new economic growth and improve social welfare.

The 1st Digital Government Forum (DGF) was organised by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and attended by experts and senior officials from Cambodia and ASEAN.

The forum is divided into two sections, the first of which is a workshop format with discussions and sharing on key topics from national and international speakers on policy aspects, growth trends of digital technology, and with exchange of experiences and excellence in accelerating the digital revolution and the use of new technologies; while the second part is a digital exhibition format with exhibitions of digital technologies, products and solutions for the digital government, with the participation of ministries, institutions and national and international companies.

Cambodia’s Digitalisation Advances in Remarkable Pace


Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has noted the rapid progress of the digitalisation in Cambodia in recent years.

‘The digitalisation in Cambodia has progressed at a remarkable pace in the past years. The COVID-19 crisis has spurred the use of digital technology more than ever before,’ he said at the opening ceremony of the 1st Digital Government Forum, held here at the Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre this morning.

The Premier continued that digital payments have reached some US$492 billion in 2023, about 16 times of GDP, while the number of registered mobile internet users and mobile subscribers has increased to more than 19 million last year.

Moreover, Samdech Thipadei mentioned about the Royal Government’s official verification platform – verify.gov.kh – which has recently won a Gold Medal in the ASEAN Digital Awards 2024, stressing that the platform will play a significant role in providing all kinds of public services for the benefit of the Cambodian people.

Besides, he
added, the Cambodia Data Exchange (CamDX), a key platform being actively used by public and private institutions to share and exchange data in the common ecosystem, grabbed the Open Source Adaption of the Year Award 2022 from the Future of Government Awards. This is another source of pride for the Royal Government of Cambodia for its efforts in digitalisation in government.

Samdech Hun Manet stated that the Royal Government has been implementing the digital policy agenda with a proactive and open spirit in order to achieve the national digital development goals and regional and global digital development goals as set out in the ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2025 and the Digital Strategy 2022-2025 of the United Nations.

In addition, he underlined, Cambodia has been joining other ASEAN member countries in advancing the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement, which is expected to increase the volume of ASEAN digital economy from US$1 trillion to US$2 trillion annually by 2030.
