Cambodian Prime Minister Congratulates the Achievements in Health Sector


Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has expressed his congratulations and appreciation for the health officers and medical practitioners for their active attention to the health service provision for the public.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the 43rd Health Conference, held here at the Chroy Changvar International Convention and Exhibition Centre this afternoon, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said Cambodian medical practitioners’ capacity has been proved during the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘If our medical practitioners were not strong, there would not be some 3,000 deaths during the COVID-19 spread, it would be more, […],’ he underlined, reaffirming further support from the 7th-mandate Royal Government for the health sector.

The Royal Government will continue to pay high attention to improve health services, build more capacity of medical practitioners, the Premier said.

H.E. Prof. Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, laid stress on the significant improvement of the health sector and c
alled for attention to non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cancer, diabetes, blood pressures, mental health, etc.

H.E. Prof. Chheang Ra emphasised the ministry’s commitment to further respond to health issues as well as to boost medical digitalisation to modernise the national health sector.

In 2023, Cambodia has a total of 31,452 heath officials across the country, including 1,163 specialist doctors; 3,428 medical doctors; 775 pharmacists, 359 dentists, 12,381 nurses; nearly 8,000 midwives; and 1,162 lab technicians.

Thai House Speaker to Pay a Visit to Cambodia This Week


H.E. Wanmuhamadnoor Matha, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand will lead a high-level delegation to pay an official and friendly visit to Cambodia this week, at the invitation of Samdech Moha Rathsapheathika Thipadei KHUON Sudary, President of Cambodia’s National Assembly (NA).

According to an announcement of the General Secretariat of Cambodian NA this morning, during his visit in Cambodia from Mar. 21 to 23, H.E. Wanmuhamadnoor Matha is scheduled to pay separate courtesy calls on Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei SAY Chhum, Acting Head of State; Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN Sen, President of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King; and Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia.

The Thai House Speaker will also hold a bilateral meeting with H.E. Kitti Setha Pundit CHEAM Yeap, Acting President of the Cambodian NA, to strengthen and expand the ties of friendship and cooperation between the legislative bodies of both neighbouring countries, the source ad

Besides, H.E. Wanmuhamadnoor Matha will attend the 8th National Ramadan Iftar Dinner, concluded the announcement.

Cambodia Has High Hopes for Tourism Recovery


The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has pinned high hopes on tourism recovery, stressing that the number of foreign arrivals to the Kingdom will be at the same level before the COVID-19 crisis.

The influx of international visitors to Cambodia will be able to return to the pre-COVID-19 situation, H.E. Sok Soken, Minister of Tourism said, adding that the RGC, the private sector and stakeholders as well as journalists have worked together to promote the country’s tourism potential and new tourism products.

‘The influx of foreign tourists that will help drive growth to Cambodia is from the Chinese and Indian markets, in addition to those from Europe, the U.S. and ASEAN countries,’ H.E Sok Soken told a press conference organised by the Club of Cambodian Journalists (CCJ) to promote Siem Reap province’s tourism potential last weekend.

The RGC has designated 2024 as the Cambodia-China People-to-People Exchange Year and the Cambodia-India Tourism Year.

According to the minister, the national flag carrier – Ca
mbodia Angkor Air – will start direct flights between Cambodia and India in June this year.

‘To attract more Indian tourists to Cambodia, the direct flights from Cambodia to New Delhi will commence on June 16,’ he said.

Cambodia attracted some 5.43 million international tourists in 2023, a sharp increase of 139 percent from 2.27 million in 2022, official figures showed.

Tourism is one of the four pillars supporting Cambodia’s economy, in addition to garment, footwear, and travel goods export, agriculture, and construction and real estate.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, the number of international visitors to Cambodia is predicted to reach 7 million by 2025, surpassing the pre-COVID-19 pandemic of 6.6 million in 2019.

Cambodia is well known for its world cultural heritage sites, namely the Angkor Archaeological Park in Siem Reap province, the Preah Vihear Temple and Koh Ker Temple in Preah Vihear province, and the Sambor Prei Kuk Archaeological Site in Kampong Thom province.

Besides, the Kingdom h
as a 450-kilometre-long pristine coastline stretching across four southwestern provinces of Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep and Koh Kong.

AirAsia to Launch Domestic Flight Operations


AirAsia Cambodia (flight code KT) is scheduled to commence its domestic flight operations to three destinations: Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville, the airline statement issued on Mar. 18 said.

The airline will launch its domestic flight operations on May 2, 2024, utilising two A320 aircrafts based at Phnom Penh International Airport, it pointed out.

According to the same source, flights to the three destinations, with daily frequencies, are now available for booking with 6,000 FREE Seats for the travel period between May 2, 2024 and Mar. 29, 2025 on airasia.com and the AirAsia MOVE app, previously known as ‘airasia Superapp’.

All flight bookings can also be paid through its main payment processing service provider – Oriental Bank’s payment gateway service which covers a wide range of payment options, from all card schemes to KHQR tailored to Cambodian guests.

MAFF Welcomes More Investment in Agriculture


The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) has welcomed a private company’s investment plan in the field of agriculture, especially cashew growing.

While receiving a delegation of CSNC Agriculture Co., Ltd. at the ministry on the afternoon of Mr. 18, H.E. Dith Tina, Minister of MAFF, underlined that for investment to be successful and sustainable, the company needs to have a clear investment plan and good cooperation with the government to ensure that the investment process is in line with national policy and receive investment support and other facilitation from the ministry.

H.E. Minister also encouraged CSNC Agriculture Co., Ltd. to study the possibility to cooperate with modern agricultural communities, which have the ability to produce in large quantity with quality for export, reduce production costs with high value-added, a good production line, and real economic efficiency.

Besides cashew, the company has planned to invest in mango and durian growing and bird nest.
