Cambodian PM to Pay an Official Visit to Lao PDR Early Next Week


Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, will lead a high-level delegation on an official visit to Lao PDR on Mar. 25-26, 2024, at the invitation of H.E. Dr. Sonexay SIPHANDONE, Prime Minister of the Lao PDR.

Accompanying Samdech Thipadei will be H.E. Deputy Prime Minister SOK Chenda Sophea, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, along with other ministers, key government officials, and representatives from the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, pointed out a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation made public on Mar. 21.

During the visit, the source said, Samdech Thipadei will pay a courtesy call on H.E. Thongloun SISOULITH, President of the Lao PDR and hold bilateral talks with his counterpart, Prime Minister Sonexay SIPHANDONE to discuss elevating bilateral cooperation across a wide range of fields. They will also exchange views on sub-regional, regional and international issues of common interest and concern.
The meeting will be followed by the signing of several documents.

Samdech Thipadei is scheduled to receive a courtesy call by H.E. Khambai DAMLAT, President of the Lao-Cambodian Friendship Association. He will also meet Cambodian Business Club members and Cambodian students.

‘The visit will further deepen bilateral cooperation under the spirit of good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, and the comprehensive and long-lasting strategic partnership between the two countries. At the same time, it will strengthen foundations for growth and prosperity for the benefit of the two peoples,’ stressed the press release.

Cambodia to Host Asia-Pacific Financial Development Meeting in May


The state-run Agricultural and Rural Development Bank (ARDB) will host the 47th ADFIAP (Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific) Annual Meeting in May this year.

The preparations for the meeting were discussed between ARDB officials and ADFIAP Secretariat via a virtual meeting on Thursday.

The 47th ADFIAP Annual Meetings will be organised under the theme ‘Development Financing Institutions (DFIs) Role in Sustainable Finance Ecosystem: Cultivating A Climate-Smart and Sustainable Future’.

Some 93 institutions from 41 countries as ADFIAP members and other relevant stakeholders in Cambodia are expected to join the meeting.

‘The meeting is to update the progress of preparation to Host the ADFIAP 47th Annual Meetings in Cambodia, to be held on May 15-17, 2024,’ ARDB said.

It is a great honour for the ARDB to host the annual meeting, which underscores the state-run bank’s strength and active participation as a member in the past, ARDB said.

In 1976, the Association of Developm
ent Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP) was established in the form of a non-governmental organisation advising the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, with a permanent secretariat in Makati, Manila, the Philippines.

ADFIAP currently has 90-member development finance institutions from 40 countries in Asia. The ARDB of Cambodia has been a member of ADFIAP since 2005.

ADFIAP’s mission is to promote sustainable development through the strengthening of institutions and financial functions for development, capacity building of members, and advocacy for financial innovation for development.

ARDB has been actively involved in implementing the Cambodian government’s policy in providing special financing to support all actors in the agricultural, agro-industrial and socio-economic development chain.

Cambodia, Azerbaijan to Promote Bilateral Cooperaiton


Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. SOK Chenda Sophea received here on Mar. 21 a courtesy call by H.E. Shovgi Mehdizada, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Kingdom of Cambodia with Residence in Hanoi.

According to a press release of the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister and H.E. Ambassador spoke highly of the commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Cambodia and Azerbaijan (1994-2024). They expressed satisfaction with the cordial relations and reaffirmed their commitment to further enhance the bilateral cooperation as well as to extend mutual support to one another in the international arenas for mutual benefits.

Both the Deputy Prime Minister and his guest emphasised the needs to intensify cooperation in the economic sector, notably, trade and investment, by exploring the possibility of e
xchanges more visits, at the Ministerial level, in the future to steer direction and set priority in potential spheres.

The Deputy Prime Minister and the Envoy recalled with deep satisfaction the productive 3rd round of the Bilateral Consultations between the two Foreign Ministries held in June 2022 in Azerbaijan. They also discussed the preparation for the forthcoming 4th session to be hosted by Cambodia at a mutually convenient date.

Cambodian, Thai NAs Satisfied with Relations and Cooperation between Both Countries


The National Assemblies (NAs) of Cambodia and Thailand have spoken highly of the progress in the relations and cooperation between the two neighbouring nations.

The appreciation was emphasised during a bilateral meeting between Acting President of the Cambodian NA H.E. Kitti Setha Pundit Cheam Yeap and visiting H.E. Wanmuhamadnoor Matha, President of the Thai NA, at the NA Palace in Phnom Penh on Mar. 21.

Both sides recalled their mutual support on inter-parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership (ASEP), Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), and ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), as well as the two governments’ commitment to promote tourism under the slogan ‘Two Kingdoms, One Destination’.

H.E. Kitti Setha Pundit Cheam Yeap took the opportunity to thank the Thai side for protecting the rights of Cambodian migrant workers in Thailand.

For his part, H.E. Wanmuhamadnoor Matha suggested a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two
NAs to strengthen their cooperation to be comprehensive. He also invited Samdech Moha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the Cambodian NA, to visit Thailand to continue the discussion on the bilateral cooperation and the signing of the MoU between both NAs.

H.E. Wanmuhamadnoor Matha pledged to encourage more Thai investors to invest in Cambodia and further enhance the Cambodian migrant workers’ rights.

A high-level delegation of the Thai NA arrived in Phnom Penh on the morning of Mar. 21 for a three-day official and friendly visit in Cambodia.
